Sir,—We have just finished fighting a war to preserve the ireedom of people everywhere, to permit people to govern themselves as they wish. Before the peace is signed, another war has started. That which New Zealanders died to prevent, is appearing again, this time much nearer our shores. . It is our duty to our fallen to see that the circumstances which they died to prevent for ever do not reappear. We must use every means available to us to hinder the Dutch and support the Indonesians. The Australian watersiders have shown us the way. The Sydney students have made their feelings clear. It is time New Zealanders awoke. The force of world opinion is a powerful weapon.—Yours, etc., STUDENT. July 2s, 1947.

Sir,—After suffering the horrors of five years of occupation the people of Holland are now in the eyes of the world imposing those very .horrors upon the Indonesians. Surely “the lessons of war are not so readily forgotten. Surely the relief of freedom has not been so quickly removed that Holland •is willing to impose her will 'upon other people by force. At present it is proposed to lower the flag whenever a fatal accident occurs. How low must our country’s flag be flown and how low must we bow our heads if we permit this to continue?— Yours, etc., LINCOLN STUDENT. July 28, 1947.
