INDIAN PLANS
Formal Approach ToJJNO OTHER COUNTRIES INFORMED NEW DELHI, July 28. Pandit Nehru announced in New Delhi that the Interim Indian Government had decided to make a forhial apprqgch to the United Nations tomorrow about the war in Indonesia. The Government had also decided to terminate almost immediately the Dutch air services plying over India. India would not send arms to Indonesia, because it would be ‘tantamount to declaring war” on the Dutch, said Pandit Nehru. India had informed other Governments, including Britain, of its intention to bring the question before the United Nations Security Council. India had recently exchanged formal and informal Notes with Australia about Indonesia. Pandit Nehru added that Pakistan had agreed to India’s plans. Asked if India would close its ports to Dutch shipping, Pandit Nehru said that the question had not arisen. Dockers' in Karachi had condemned what they described as “Dutch aggression against the Indonesian Republic,” and had unanimously resolved not to load or unload Dutch ships in Karachi harbour. Nawabzada Allah Nawaz Khan, Speaker of the North-west Frontier Province Legislative Assembly, demanded joint action against the Netherlands Government “for their ghastly injury to the sentiments of the whole Moslem world.” He added that the Dutch action was nothing short of an exhibition of the hatred and intolerance of the white races against those of Asia.
