SIR VIVIAN

TROTTING

BRILLIANT YOUNGSTER Sir Vivian is back in work after a short spell. He proved one of the best two-year-olds seen out for the season when he followed up a second placing to British Machine in the Great Northern Trotting Stakes at Auckland in February, and a third placing to Hilda Scott and Congo Song in the Juvenile Handicap at the Canterbury Park Trotting Club’s meeting on May 17 with a clear-cut win in the New Zealand Sapling Stakes at Ashburton in June. Sir Vivian has put on condition and he is well forward in his preparation for the classics in the coming season. , A sturdily-built gelding. Sir Vivian was bred at Geraldine by Mr W. G. Patrick, who sold him at the 1945 yearling sales for 350 guineas to Mr P. V. Flexman, who has already won £945 in stakes with the gelding. Sir Vivian, which was educated for his races by the Addington trainer, J. Young, is the first of the progeny of Grattan Loyal to win the Sapling Stakes. A son of Grattan Royal and Gwita, Grattan Loyal was foaled in Canada in 1920 and was imported to New Zealand by F. Holmes in 1930. A successful sire, he was 23 years old when he sired Sir Vivian. Jenny’s Bond, the dam of Sir Vivian, is by Worthy Bond from Jenny Bell Junior, which left winners in Special Sun to Sungod, Silver Guy to Adioo Guy, Regal to Grattan Loval and Who Knows to Quite Sure. ■ Sir Vivian’s win in the Sapling Stakes was achieved in an effortless manner and he will probably be at a very short price in the classics and semi-classics for three-year-olds next term.

Injured The Dillon Hall mare. Hall Vale, which recorded two third placings in her two starts this season when trained at Charteris Bay by J.
