COPPER COIN IMPRESSIVE

CLASS ABOVE KENNELS HACK FIELD

Copper Coin, running out her hack engagements, proved herself a class above the opposition in the Kennels Hack Handicap pt the Christchurch Hunt Club’s meeting on Saturday, when, in spite of her weight of 9-10, she ran right away from the field over the last furlong to win impressively by four lengths. In her 12 starts this season Copper Coin has had five wins, two thirds, and a fourth placing, and has been four times unplaced, and her winnings total £1250. , A three-year-old filly by Leighon from Pennywise by Myosotis from Pennywhistle by Jericho from Dutch Money, the dam of Not Out, she was bred by Mr E. B. Rawlings and is raced by Mrs J. P. Drury and trained by E. A. Rosewarne. In open company Copper Coin should more than hold her own. Beechwood, Altruist, Foreign Ways, and Flakewood were slow away, Kosciusko showing out early from Aldis Lamp, Bobby Dazzler, Kill Fast, and Robingay After the lead had changed hands a few times along the back, Queen’s General moved through to the front to lead past I the five furlongs post from Kosciusko, I Kill Fast, Aldis Lamp, Bobby Dazzler, Stabilisation, Penetrate, Robingay, and Copper Coin. Queen’s General held his lead round to the straight with Kill Fast, Kosciusko, Aldis Lamp, Bobby Dazzler, Beechwood, on the rails, RobinGay, Penetrate, and Copper Coin next. Beechwood came through on the inside to challenge Queen’s General at the furlong and no sooner had his measure than Copper Coin made her challenge on the outer and drew right away to win goingaway by four lengths. Penetrate came home well to get third, a length clear of Bobby Dazzler, Queen’s General, and Stabilisation, which finished in line, with Lalla Meer, heading the rest. Veteran Stays Too Well Superior staying ability enabled the veteran performer. The Raker, to score a surprise win in the Longbeach Hurdles Handicap, with. Kassai wearing down the i pacemaker, Khadim, in the run home to ! beat him for second place. The finish might have been more interesting had not Olga’s Choice broken down badly in the straight. Periwig was another casualty. He hit the hurdle near the mile very hard and was not persevered with after that. He also bled during the race. The favourite, Matapan, made a forward move on the home turn but his effort was short lived. Khadim and Periwig quickly established a good lead, and with a round to go led Sphere, Matapan, Kassai, and Forage, which were clear of Olga s Choice, The Raker, and Pedantic. Periwig dropped out at the mile, and along the back Khadim led Olga’s Choice by two lengths, but the latter joined him at the six furlongs and the Pair raced round to the home turn two dear of Sphere and Kassai, with The Raker, Matapan, and Forage handy. Except that Matapan was done with there was httle change to the last hurdle, where ° lga dropped out quickly, leaving Khadim in front. The Raker soon went to the front and had no difficulty by a length, with half a length to Khadim, which weakened over test half furlong. Sphere was three lengths back lourth, then came Forage, with gaps to Pedantic and Matapan. Hunt Cup Winner Jumps Well Fairyhouse, making his first appearance m a race, gave a sound exhibition of jumping to win the Christchurch Hunt Cup by a length from Edward, which was along way back in the early stages of the race and was interfered with on tw'> occasions. Fairyhquse was always in front, and though challenged by Edward in the Si” alwa y s held the upper hand, horse, Tissue Paper, finished well back and was the only other runhan CO i rn ?T 1 l et .?x the course without mishap Real Night was eliminated at the first fence and over the stand double hJn7 h -£r^ e and The Pie led from Waihopi, Mittens, Golden Glow, and Tissue Edward several lengths back b 5P g l nterfere d with by Real , g ht. Bravura Never Headed _ a A a ,, p °° r field .u of hack steeplechasers paiaded in the Lawford Hack and Hunters Steeplechase, and Bravura showing more stamina than he has done previously, scored practically an end to ®" d n ’ . eas ;.iy beating the very moderate Hughsotis by four lengths. Appeasement was a poor third after an ungenerous display. Only four of the six runners completed the course, Waihopi. making his second appearance in sucwh?te e T ra T’ again crashing at Cutts’s VM 1 ® Troytown, which had practically hX W ril d ° W P 12 a ® ant ®r, a t the time, lost at.th.e big brush fence at the top of the straight. From the start, BraHughsotis led from Appeasement with three lengths to Ballyaggan. Bravura jumped clear of Hughsotis at the second of the Kennels double, and stand L was six lengths clear of the latter, with Appeasement. Troytown and Ballyaggan following. Round to Cutts Bravura increased his lead to 20 lengths, and all along the back was that distance clear of Hughsotis, with Appeasement struggling along in third place. Hughsotis set out to bridge the gap over the last half-mile, but it was a hopeless task. Bravura always holding several lengths advantage down to the finish. Appeasement made up some ground from the home turn and was well clear of the fourth horse, Ballyaggan. Finished. On Strongly Finishing on very strongly over the last furlong, Ballochbuie won the first division of the Haldon Stakes very decisively from Magnaform and Confidence Trick which were in front to the last half-fur-long. Confidence Trick was the early leader from Magnaform, Golden Hope, Wide Range, Cerisette, Broie, and Balloch•li e ’ i- At the f b rl °ng Confidence Trick still had charge from Magnaform with Golden Hope, Ballochbuie and Broie and Wide Range handy. Magnaform headed Confidence Trick at the half-furlong, but Ballochbuie finished very fast to beat him by a length with a similar margin to Confidence Trick. There was a gap of three lengths to Golden Hope, which was followed by Wide Range, Broie, Dark Arrow, w’hich was slow away, and Miss Mahatma. Maka Maka Wins Comfortably In the second division of the Haldon Stakes, Maka Maka was always handily placed behind the leaders, and took charge at the furlong to beat Carry On comfortably by a length. Strathconan was the early pacemaker from Faultrosa, Maka Maka, Carry On, Renege and Count Minerva wide out. Strathconan led into the straight, but Maka Maka came through at the false rail, and at the furlong had charge from Strathconan, Carry On, Renege, Agenda, and Lodestar. Although Carry On finished solidly, Maka Maka was always going the better and beat him easily by a length. Three lengths I back Renege was a poor third, a length i in front of Lodestar. Then came Agenda, Gold Medallion, Strathconan, and Count Minerva. Beaugard and Gold Medallion were slow away. I Outclassed Hack Sprinters ! The Te Rapa trained gelding Ganjah | outclassed the hack sprinters in the Camla Hack Handicap. He was in fourth place at the straight entrance, and quickly ran past the pacemakers, Our Maureen and Fort Silver, to take charge at the distance, and draw out to win comfortably by two lengths from Peculate, with Deficiency a neck away, third. Valiant Prince, Sandy’s Pride, Polka, and Blue Hussar were slow away, Roval Flash showing out first from Royal Robe. At the end of a furlong Our Maureen had moved up to make the pace, with Fort Silver, with Royal Robe and Ganjah next followed by Peculate, Royal Flash, Deficiency, Mestiza. and Connaught. Round to the straight entrance Our Maureen and Fort Silver still had charge from Roval Robe and Ganjah, with Royal Flash and Peculate next, followed by Deficiency Connaught, and Front Page. Commencing the run home. Fort Silver was the first to weaken, Ganjah moving through to have charge from Our Maureen ard Peculate at the furlong. Ganjah could have increased his winning margin of two lengths over Peculate, which held on to beat the faster-finishing Deficiency. Two lengths back came Connaught, which was followed by Our Maureen and Fort Silver together, Royal Flash, Royal Robe, and Blue Hussar.
