PLANE OVERRUNS RUNWAY
MEMBERS OF BRITISH DELEGATION HURT
RETURN FLIGHT FROM MOSCOW
7 P.m.) LONDON, July 25 aeroplane bringing Mr Harold Wilson and the other members of the British trade delegation from Moscow overran the runway on landing at the London airport shortly before midnight last night. The aeroplane was. badly damaged, and Mr w “® on and fl ve others were injured. The only one badly injured was MissJoan Montagu, a personal secretary, who was taken to hospital. Mr Wilson suffered slight shock and bruises. He said: “We had a very nice trip from Moscow. Then, as we were about to land, there was a terrific bumping anil all. the lights went out I was thrown forward in my seat. Mv ribs are hurting me. I have to see a doctor.” Lord Burghley was also in the aeroplane. He suffered a black eve and a severe shaking. Lord Burghley went to Moscow to attend a youth sports festival. Mr J. Cook, M.P., Parliamentary private secretary to the President of the Board of Trade, and the delegation’s official interpreter (Mr V.* Bulmer) suffered cuts and bruises. There were 17 passengers on board. pi , lot “ As we were landing, the brakes failed, and we ran into rough ground. The front part of the plane was slightly damaged." A witness said that 'he aeroplane ran the end th® runway, crashed through a hedge and a ditch, and finished in a field. Petrol cascaded from the tanks and it was a miracle that it did not catch fire.
