Replacing Orchard Netting

A suggestion that cherry orchardists whose orchards and netting had been destroyed in the 1945 snowstorm, use camouflage netting during the present shortage of wire-netting, was made by Mr H. R. Sampson, Canterbury director of the New Zealand Fruitgrowers’ Federation, at the annual conference of Canterbury fruitgrowers at Rangiora yesterday. The question was raised by Mr F. Taylor, who said that the cost of replacing netting was so enormous that it was scarcely worthwhile. The cost of covering half an acre would be about £7OO, he said. The least the Government could do would be to give supplies at a reasonable cost. Mr Sampson said that supplies were low and that the cost was high; but he had found camouflage netting very satisfactory
