LAWN TENNIS AT WIMBLEDON

KRAMER AND BROWN TO CONTEST SINGLES

LONDON, July 2. The Americans, Kramer and Tom Brown, will contest the final of the men’s singles championship at Wimbledon. Kramer, in the semi-flnals today, easily beat the Australian, Pails, and Brown eliminated his fellow countryman, Patty. The centre court was packed when Kramer and Pails began their match. Kramer immediately jumped right into his stride, while Pails, comparatively, lacked sting, and won only two points in the first three games. In spite of some terrific services by Pails, Kramer took the first set with ease. Pails served even more strongly in the second set, and, with some fine passing shots, ran out the set at 6-3. Thereafter the Australian was no match for the American, who served, drove, and volleyed magnificently. Pails tried hard to hold his services, but he made too many errors. Kramer had an answer to everything, and he played some beautiful passing shots. Pails was the first man to take a set from Kramer in the tournament.

Brown had a convincing win over Patty. Both showed ability to retrieve difficult balls, but Brown hit and worked the harder. He maintained his accuracy throughout the match, and sometimes he slammed home winners off good-length drives by Patty. He made Patty cover a lot of court, and his service was far better than his opponent’s. Brown never let up, and in the third set his shots continually found the sidelines and corners. He was altogether too strong for Patty, who had no chance to wear him down as he had his other opponents. Results were as follows: —

Men’s Singles Semi-finals.—Kramer beat Pails, 6-1, 3-6, 6-0, 6-0; Tom Brown beat Patty, 6-3, 6-3, 6-3.
