PERMITS FOR BUILDING
FIGURES FOR JUNE A sharp increase of £42,004 in the value of building permits issued by the Christchurch City Council for June this year, compared with those for June, 1946, is shown in the building permit summary for the month. However, the number of permits has increased by three only, 179 against 176 last year. The value of permits issued in each ward of the city, with the value of permits issued in June of last year in parenthesis, was as follows:—central, inner area, £4075 (£9726); central, outer area, £8872 (£1685); St, Albans, £25.864 (£17,599); Sydenham, £19,712 (£5753); Linwood, £6910 (£16.026); Spreydon, £11.465 (£3605); Woolston, £13,573 (£8501); New Brighton, £11,225 (£860); Sumner, £4335 (£272); tbtal, £106.031 (£64,027). For the three months since March 31 last the value of permits issued is £46.877 greater than for the corresponding period last year, even though the number ofi permits is 106 less. Since the beginning of the financial year 497 permits of a total value of £280.381 have been issued, compared with 603 valued at £233 504 for the corresponding months of 1946.
