RECORD YEAR FOR NEW BUSINESS
GOVERNMENT INSURANCE DEPARTMENT New business done by the Government Life Insurance Department during the year ended December 31, 1946, amounted to 11,188 policies, assuring the sum of £6.511,227, the premiums on these policies being £144,377 a year. This is a record for new business done by the department in one year. The total business in force at the end of the year was 114.224 policies, bearing an annual premium income of £1.064.026. The total sum assured was £45 esV.io?. This information is given in the annual report of the Government Insurance Commissioner, presented to the House of Representatives. The amount paid in claims during the year was £724.286. There was an increase in the business written under group and. staff superannuation schemes, stated the report.
