SHOPS ORDERED TO DELIVER

STATEMENT BY N.S.W. MINISTER (Rec. 9 p.m.) SYDNEY, June 18. When all shops in New South Wales are reregistered on July 1, shopkeepers must undertake to provide a home delivery service similar to that given before the war. This firm declaration of State Government policy was made to-day by the Minister of Labour and Industry (Mr Hamilton Knight). Under the Factories and Shops Act, 28,108 shops were registered in New South Wales last year, including 15,798 grocers, drapers and chain stores, 1267 butchers, and 1644 fruit and vegetable shops. ‘‘This may be the last opportunity many of these shopkeepers have of registering their businesses,” said the Minister. ‘‘Unless they provide the public with the same delivery service as they provided before the war, the Government will take action to arrange for the registration only to those who undertake ,to comply with its policy of home deliveries/’
