SIR APIRANA NGATA ENTERTAINED
(P.A.) WELLINGTON, June 11. Elders of the Native race south from Wanganui. Taupo, and Wairarapa, together with Europeans, met in Wellington last evening to entertain Sir Apirana Ngata. The Government was represented by the Hon. E. T. Tirikatene, member of the Executive Council representing the Maori race. As president of the Polynesian Society, Sir Apirana Ngata addressed the gathering on Maori culture. Referring to the hope expressed by Dr. E. Beaglehole that the two races in New Zealand , would amalgamate and go forward hand in hand, he said such a hope could not be realised in a few minutes. There were deeplyrooted antagonisms between any races —differences of blood, colour, and even such things as food.
