USUAL LECTURES AT UNIVERSITY
TECHNICAL COLLEGE ARRANGEMENTS Arrangements have been made for the minimum essential lights in lecture rooms to be lit at Canterbury University College during the earlyevening power cut this week. The rector (Professor A. H. Tocker) said yesterday that more than 500 students attended evening lectures. If the lectures were postponed until after the full power supply was restored, they would still require the same amount of light, so approval had been given to classes continuing on the normal schedule, provided only the minimum power was used and rigid economies made in other directions. Professor Tocker said that considerable reorganisation had been necessary in the laboratories where the use of power was being restricted to a minimum and where experimental and demonstration work was being done at times calculated to cause least strain on the supply. The college was normally a heavy consumer of electricity, said Professor Tocker; but its demands were being reduced considerably. Technical Colleges Evening classes at post-primary schools will also be affected. The Technical Colleges have arranged amended schedules. At the Christchurch college the session will begin as usual at 5 p.m.; but will end at 6.45 p.m. instead of 7 p.m. The next session, which normally follows on immediately. will not begiii until 7.45. ahd it will conclude about 9.15. The Papanui Technical College does not have early evening classes; but its usual session will be delayed three-quarters of an hour to 7.45, concluding about 9.15.
