The United States Minister to New Zealand (Mr Avra M. Warren) will leave on July 15 for three months’ home leave. The first secretary to the legation (Mr John S. Service) will be Charge d’Affaires.—(P.A.) Lieutenant-Colonel C. A. McFarlane, director of the Army Education and Welfare Service, has retired. This was, announced by the Minister of Defence (Mr F. Jones). Colonel McFarlane is returning to the Post and Telegraph Department, where he is to assume a senior administrative position.—(P.A.) Mr W. W. Brough, clerk to the North Canterbury Catchment Board, has resigned from the post of secretary of the Selwyn Plantation Board. Mr E. /A. Cooney, superintendent of the Plantation Board, has been appointed as that board’s superintendentsecretary. Group Captain D. J. Scott, who has been on extended furlough in New Zealand, • will leave Wellington early next month by the Corinthic for England to resume his duties as a regular officer Of the Royal Air Force. He will be accompanied by Mrs Scott and their daughter.
