MR HOLLAND AND THE 40HOUR WEEK

Sir, —Mr Holland’s way of explaining the contradictory statements he made in Christchurch and Palmerston North as to the 40-hour week, is to say “Mr Wright is at his favourite old trick again, taking a few words away from their context in an endeavour to make them appear to have a meaning which he knows they never had when used.” Well, the people of this country want to know if Mr Holland is in favour of the 40-hour week or against it, whether in Christchurch or in Palmerston or in any place in New Zealand. Yes or no? —Yours, etc., / G. E. WRIGHT. May 30, 1947. [Mr Holland’s reply to the question whether he is in favour of the 40-hour week is “Yes.”]
