BOXING
PIPPETT BEATS HOFFMAN (P.A.) AUCKLAND, June 9. Two rugged and superbly game boxers, Ross Pippett, of Melbourne, and Darcy Hoffman, of Dunedin, to-night provided one of the finest bouts seen here for many years. Pippett won on a narrow margin of points, earned by his cleaner punching and superior ringcraft during the earlv rounds, but Hoffman made a strong bid over the last two or three rounds, and almost took the decision. Pippett. who weighed in at list 91b to Hoffman’s 12st 511 - punished Hoffman with heaw righthand punches, and proved Limself an adept at scoring with a right upper-cut delivered while back moving.
