AN UNUSUAL TROPHY
MEMORIAL TO FORMER STUDENT A handsome silver cup of unusual design h9s been presented for competition between the Christchurch and Papanui Technical Colleges by Mr and Mrs H R. Blake, in memory of their son, Roger, who was reported missing early in the war on a bombing raid over Cologne. Roger Blake attended the Christchurch College, and was there well known for his keen interest in all spheres of school activity. He
was a successful student and took a full part in the extra-mural life of the college. Mr and Mrs Blake desire that the trophy shall be used to encourage a greater interest in swimming, and an inter-college competition to achieve this end is being arranged by the two principals. Dr. D. E. Hansen and Mr J. B. Mcßride. The Roger Blake Memorial Cup stands about 18 inches high. Its base bears shields for the inscription of annual winners’ names. From the cap there rises a fine silver spiral, which supports a heavy bomber, modelled to scale in silver.
