DRIVE ON CAPITAL OF SHANSI (Rec. 10 p.m.) NANKING. May 10. Chinese press reports say thftt the Government has thrown more than 100 planes into battle in hn attempt to stop the Communist drive on Taiyuan, capital of Shansi. In spite of attempts to bolster the city’s defences, the Communists have captured Kenyan g. on the railway 60 miles to the southwest. Taiyuan is reported to be crammed with 100,000 destitute refugees from the battle areas. The Government has claimed further successes in eastern Shantung, where its forces are advancing' on Chuhsien and Ishui. Which are important Communist strongholds.
