TRAM SERVICES
Sir,—May I suggest that an improvement to the services for the general public residing in the Lincoln road area coujd be greatly improved by making use of the Hagley avenue line. This, I feel, sure, could be operated upon to expediate travel to the city during morning and evening rush periods and during visiting hours to the Public Hospital. At the present time, it appears, the aforementioned line is used exclusively for race days and other sporting events. An alteration would certainly be of great assistance and. appreciated by the residents of this district. —Yours, etc., REGULAR PATRON. April 11, 1947. [“ln ward-bound trams could use Hagley avenue, but by doing so it would deprive residents in Selwyn and Stewart street areas of the use of a tramcar service, without any corresponding advantage to other passengers in this district,’’ says the general manager of the Christchurch Tramways (Mr Fardell). “Outward-bound trams could not use this route without considerable track alterations, and in .consequence they would be running opgosite to the gyratory system in the quare, which would not be permitted by the traffic department of the City Council.”]
