AUSTRALIAN WHEAT CONTRACT
Sir, —In your issue of April 15 your correspondent "Remembrance” stated that New Zealand was paying 15s ! for Australian wheat. When the Wheat I and Flour Controller, at the editor’s «invitation, contradicted the statement, i “Remembrance” said that if his state- , ment was wrong he would apologise, I thinking to throw dust in the eyes of • the general public and perpetuate his i lie. Mr McPherson, on again being asked to comment, stated that provided “Remembrance” would apologise he could call at the Wheat Committee office accompanied by a reporter of “The Press,” and would be shown all the evidence he required. In your issue this morning “Remembrance” now states that he is not referring to this year but to next year. This is nothing more than a ridiculous climbdown by an anonymous correspondent who desired, for his own reasons, to make the public believe an absolute untruth.—Yours, etc., MAIRZY DOATS. May 5, 1947.
