The Minister of Public Works (Mr R. Semple), who was in Christchurch for the funeral of Mr D. G. Sullivan, returned to Wellington last evening. Group Captain D. J. Scott, 0.8. E., D. 5.0., D.F.C., left Greymouth yesterday for Whenuapai, where he will board a Dakota bound for Japan. Group Captain Scott is engaged on a mission for the Air Force and expects to be away for three or four weeks.
The Very Rev. N. A. Lesser, the bishop-elect of Waiapu, with his wife and daughter, will leave Cape Town by the Corinthic for New Zealand early next month. It is now expected that the consecration ceremony will take place at Napier on June 11, but the arrangements are dependent on the movements of the Primate of New Zealand (Archbishop West-Watson), who may still be absent in Japan.—(P.A.)
Confirmation of the awards of the gold badge and certificate of merit of the New Zealand Returned Services’ Association to Messrs D. W. Russell and C. Miln was received by telegram at a meeting of the executive of the Christchurch Returned Services’ Association last evening. The awards were recommended some time ago fbr long service to the association. Presentations will be made on Anzac Day if the awards come to hand in time. A motion of sympathy with the relatives of Mr D. G. Sullivan was passed at a meeting of the Christchurch R.S.A. last evening. Similar motions were carried by members of the Fendalton Bowling Club and the Christchurch Rubber Workers’ Union.
