ONE RECIPIENT IN AUSTRALIA CANBERRA, Macrh 8. Latest figures issued by the Taxation Commission shows that only one person in Australia has a personal income of more than £50,000 a year, though eight receive more than £50,000 from personal exertion and property combined. The latest returns analysed are those for the year 1942-43 when the top earner received £58,769 of which he paid £52,703 in taxes. No one in that year had a personal exertion income between £30,000 and £50,000 and only two were between £20,000 and £30,000. Other income groups were as follows: £lO,OOO to £20,000, 15; £5OOO to £lO.OOO, 144; £l5OO to £5OOO, 4411; £5OO to £l5OO, 6066; below £5OO, 1,552,823.
