NORMAL WORK AT WELLINGTON
MEETING OF UNION BRANCH (P.A.) WELLINGTON January 20. It took national officials of the Waterside Workers’ Union most of the afternoon to-day to answer questions at a stop-work meeting of members of the Wellington branch, at which the national council’s recommendation for a return to normal hours was put before the. men.
The Wellington branch had been particularly solid in its support of the nocompromise policy of the union in its dispute with the Government. A very frank exchange of views developed at the meeting, and it is understood that additional national officials were brought to the meeting to address members. The meeting was originally expected to last half an hour, but extended to nearly three hours. The executive’s recommendation for a return to normal hours was adopted, and in terms of this resolution the men answered a 6 p.m. call for labour on the Wellington wharves. There was a good response.
