CONTEST FOR CORNWELL CUP

CHRISTCHURCH SECOND IN FOURTH RACE (P.A.) AUCKLAND, January 16. For the second time in the series a Cornwell Cup race was abandoned because of the time limit of three hours being exceeded when the fourth race for the trophy was sailed this morning. It' was sailed in the afternoon and won by Paremata, by a margin of 3min 55sec from Christchurch, with Auckland, which is leading in the contest, 2min Bsec further back in third place. Lyttelton is the other winner in the four races so far completed. Paremata’s win in the afternoon was comfortable and a result of excellent sailing by the crew, especially on the last leg, when smart work with the spinnaker won applause from' a large crowd watching the race. The main interest was centred on the struggle for second place, Christchurch, Hamilton, Auckland, and Lyttelton all having chances. Lyttelton, did not complete the course.
