FIRE BRIGADE ANSWERS TWO ALARMS

The Christchurch Fire Brtlgd® answered two alarms yesterday. first at 4.41 p.m. was to the Casnm Street Arcade, where smoke had been seen pouring from a room. It found that some felt buff wheels were being drilled and heat and smoke were being generated in the work. Another call was received at p.m. to Cashel street, and a fire in tns engine of a motor-car was extinguished. The fire had been caused by backfire from the carburettor. There was no damage to. the car.
