CHRISTCHURCH BOY IN AMERICA FOR REMOVAL OF SCREW FROM LUNG—LEFT: John Turner, the four-year-old Christchurch boy, who was flown to the United States to undergo an operation for the removal of a three-quarter inch screw embedded in one of his lungs, is carried from a Pan American clipper by his father, Mr Noel D. RIGHT: Two other patients at Temple Hospital, Shirley Skinner, aged 16, of Melbourne, who travelled to America to have a nail taken from her right lung, and Elizabeth Thomas, aged three years, who was flown to Philadelphia from Atlanta, Georgia, to be operated upon for the removal of a pin which she had swallowed. Both operations were successfully performed, and the patients are reported to be well on the way to recovery.
