GLASGOW REFUSE ACCUMULATES
STRIKE CAUSES FEARS FOR HEALTH (Ree. 8 p.ffl.) LONDON. January 18. Twenty thousand tons of uncollected refuse which litters thousands of tenement back courts in Glasgow as a resuit of a fortnight-old Cleansing Department strike is causing fears for the public health of the city. The Cleansing Committee may adopt emergency measures. The strikers claim a jninimum wage of £5 a week. Street sweepers at pre-: pent earn £4 7s. Refuse emptiers, on a tonnage rate, earn £7.
