BRITISH AIRCRAFT-CARRIERS TO BE LAID UP.—A war-time picture of H.M.S. Victorious travelling at speed. She is one of the Royal Navy’s six fast fleet aircraft-carriers which are being laid up in reserve because of the manning position. All the fast carriers, which were completed during the war, carry from 1600 to 2000 men and 60 to 70 aircraft. They are, therefore, expensive to maintain and difficult to man. The Victorious took part in operations at Petsamo, and her aircraft assisted in the pursuit of the Bismarck.
