EIGHT MEN CHARGED WITH BOOKMAKING

(P.A.) WELLINGTON, January 13. Eight men were charged with bookmaking in the Magistrate’s Court to-day, and another was charged with entering Into a bet on a race whereby he agreed to pay the other party a sum of money, the result of which was dependent on the totalisator. Alfred Victor Carnegie, aged 51. a glass beveller, and Kenneth Osborn Muir, aged 50, a barman, each elected for trial by jury on charges of bookmaking. Fines imposed on the other seven defendants, all of whom pleaded guilty, totalled £750.
