SHOOTING OF ASKARIS
Sir,—With “Nhluganiso,” I too was shocked at the tone of Varian J. Wilson’s letter regarding the above. It is more than time that we started to build up British prestige, so sadly dented just before and after the war. What Britain has endured of recent years, and the colossal part she played in saving the whole world from a terrible experience should make all who are fortunate enough to have been born under the British flag, proud and “nationalist” conscious. Some of these misguided people who are ever active in trying to bring the coloured races to power, might be better advised to hurry slowly in this direction, or, metaphorically speaking, the saintly halo they apparently like to wear may one day slip and become a noose round their necks, with dire results, unfortunately also • dragging others down with them.—Yours, etc.. BRITISH. January 10, 1947.
