CHRISTCHURCH BRANCH The monthly meeting o£ the Christchurch branch of the Plunket Society was held in the Plunket Rooms, 211 Oxford terrace, Mrs B. H. Gilmour presiding. For the Plunket Rooms. Visits to rooms: central 829 babies, 1702 adults; suburban, 2261 babies, -2337 adults; oustations 312 babies, 338 adults; baby cases under supervision, 3248; pre-school Children: visit to rooms, central 200, cubUrban 121, outstations 29. Children examined by school medical officer, 94. It was reported that an interesting visitor to the Plunket Rooms during the month was Miss Anges from Melbourne. She is a Truby King nurse and is observing methods in New Zealand, before commencing a venture of her own in Melbourne. This will be an "after-care" home, a home very much in favour with all Plunket nurses who daily witness the ill effects of mothers being rushed into over-busy maternity homes and then rushed home again before they are sufficiently recuperated. Miss Anges hopes to establish a real home for mothers so that they may have a more domestic and restful atmosphere after the birth of their babies, before returning to their own homes. It was announced that a nurse now visits the Harewood Transit Camp weekly and that the number of babies seen is increasing. Miss Moody, tutor nurse, has also been out and given a talk and demonstration. Miss Lee, secretary of the Karitane Nurses’ Bureau, that 24 cases were booked during the *month. There were 17 application* for training at Karitane Hospital. Eight candidates were interviewed by the selection committee and all were accepted. Dr. Doris Gordon, in company with Dr, J. H. Blakelock and Miss Grant, of the Health Department, visited the Lady King Karitane Hospital. Sources of admission to the hospital were Hinds, Hanmer Springs, Lyttelton, Hornby, Timaru, Christchurch, and suburbs. A donation of £5O towards branch funds was received from the Mayor’s Fund. Donations towards the Karitane Hospital were gratefully received from the Temuka branch and the Hawarden subbranch.
