BASKETBALL

SUCCESSFUL FIELD DAY The Canterbury Basketball Association held a successful field day on Saturday. Matches were played in the morning and afternoon, and at the close of the tournament trophies won during the season were presented. Results of the tournament were:— Ashburton A 21, Canterbury third grade 6; Lincoln A 12, North Canterbury A 12; Canterbury fourth grade 10, West Coast 8; Lincoln B 8,. Hurunui A 20; Ashburton B 36, West Coast 12; Canterbury fifth and sixth grades 18, Hurunui B 11; Lincoln B 23, North Canterbury B

The following is the final position of the teams in the senior competition:—Sacred Heart 33 points. Digby’s 29. University 24. Mataura 22, Technical 21, Y.W.C.A, 13, St. Mary’s 11, Training College 6, Canberra 6, Mairehau 5.

Sacred Heart also won the King’s Birthday tournament, and the Beau Ideal Cup for the best average of goals scored in games throughout the season, in all grades.
