BASKETBALL
SUCCESSFUL FIELD DAY The Canterbury Basketball Association held a successful field day on Saturday. Matches were played in the morning and afternoon, and at the close of the tournament trophies won during the season were presented. Results of the tournament were:— Ashburton A 21, Canterbury third grade 6; Lincoln A 12, North Canterbury A 12; Canterbury fourth grade 10, West Coast 8; Lincoln B 8,. Canterbury fifth and sixth grades 5; Ellesmere A 13, Hurunui A 11; Ashburton B 11, Ellesmere B 8: Hurunui B 9, North Canterbury B 6; Canterbury third grade 21, Hurunui A 17: North Canterbury A 17, Ellesmere A 6; Ashburton A 17, Lincoln A 4; Ashburton B 12, Canterbury fourth grade 9; West Coast 10, Ellesmere B 9; Canterbury fifth and sixth grades 22, North Canterbury 6; Women Referees 11, Men Referees 5; Ashburton A 21, North Canterbury A 16; Canterbury fourth grade 19, Ellesmere B 10; Lincoln B 17, Hurunui B 2; Canterbury third grade 15, Ellesmere A 10; Lincoln A 32. Hurunui A 20; Ashburton B 36, West Coast 12; Canterbury fifth and sixth grades 18, Hurunui B 11; Lincoln B 23, North Canterbury B
The following is the final position of the teams in the senior competition:—Sacred Heart 33 points. Digby’s 29. University 24. Mataura 22, Technical 21, Y.W.C.A, 13, St. Mary’s 11, Training College 6, Canberra 6, Mairehau 5.
Sacred Heart also won the King’s Birthday tournament, and the Beau Ideal Cup for the best average of goals scored in games throughout the season, in all grades.
