SNOOKER

J. MUNRO WINS N.Z. CHAMPIONSHIP

The New Zealand amateur snooker championship was concluded on Saturday, when J. Munro (Canterbury), who was undefeated throughout the tournament, won the title.

In the semi-finals, Munro met and beat both K. Whitford and W. Smith, and his Play* not only in these games but in all the others, proved that he is a player well above the average. The record he established is a very fine one. and may stand for many years.

Munro was successful last season in the Canterbury snooker championship, and besides being a fine snooker player, he is equally as good at billiards. He is a member of the Automobile Association. Canterbury, as is R. Whitford, the runnerup, who at various stages in the championship played very attractive snooker. The highest break, outside the winner and runner-up, was compiled by V. Cheat, 33, and his open play was much appreciated by the spectators. W. McCowatt made the best showing of the Auckland contingent. The Wellington player, L. Blackaby, did not play up to expectations, nor did the Otago representative, A. Budduck, both being eliminated early: Players, w.
