NEW ST. HELENS HOSPITAL
Work To Begin, Immediately COLOMBO STREET FRONTAGE (From Our Parliamentary Reporter.) WELLINGTON. Sept. 20. The building of the new St. Helens Hospital in Christchurch will begin almost immediately on the site fronting Colombo street. This information was given this evening by the Minister of [ealth (the Hon. A. H. Nordmeyer) in an interview. Mr Nordmeyer said that, after prolonged negotiations between the Government and „the contractor, Mr W. Williamson, concerning matters in dispute, he was happy to say that all difficulties had been resolved and arrangements made for the contractor to begin work immediately. The building would be substantially as designed but to provide better access, it would now front Colombo street and not Durham street, as originally intended. The nurses’ home would be placed on the Durham street frontage.
The Millbrook reserve presents just now a specially fine display. Magnolias. cherries, peaches, flowering apples, and many shrubs are bright with spring colours.
