AMENITIES FOR TROOPS IN JAPAN

COLONEL WAITE’S REPORT (P.A.) WELLINGTON, September 19. Colonel F. Waite, who is in Japan making investigations on behalf of the Government and the National Patriotic Fund Board into the scale of amenities for personnel of the New Zealand contingent of the occupation force, has reported to the Prime Minister the Rt. Hon. P. Fraser) by cablegram. He says that he has been impressed by the expressions of satisfaction of all ranks with the improvement in conditions during the last few weeks, and adds that the bearing and dress of New Zealand soldiers compare very

favourably with those of other Allied personnel. Colonel Waite also says that ample supplies of goods for the Y.M.C.A. and institutes are now coming forward. Large quantities of club and institute furniture, and crockery will need to be sent from New Zealand soon.
