NEW CLUB ROOM
LEAGUE FOR HARD OF HEARING The term-end party at the Christchurch branch of the New Zealand League for the Hard of Hearing marked the opening of the new recreation room. During, the preceding weeks 30 of the members had been busily employed in making the room Suitable for league purposes, by raising money *to purchase the necessary materials, or by giving their services in the utilisation of the materials thus purchased. Those who were unable to offer such active assistance decided to show their appreciation by arranging a party in honour of these helpers. The programme began with the presentation of souvenirs to all who had taken part in the work. These small gifts were subscribed to or contributed by members’ of the league; and .much thought arid consideration had been given to their selection, so that each recipient might have some small souvenir which would be in daily ufee, a continual reminder of the pleasant associations built iip at the various working parties whlfch had been 1 organised. Messrs ■C. H. Barton and R. McGregor (the chairman and honorary secretary to the social committee) were masters of ceremonies for the first part of the programme, the, presentations being made by Mr J. Montgomery, president of the branch. Mr F. Agassiz took charge of the second half of the programme.
The new room, now well equipped for games and for the use of the various study circles which are beginning to form a part of ti%e league programme, will add greatly to the recreational facilities of the branch.
