BUILDING FUND FOR Y.W.C.A.
GOODWILL MESSAGES RECEIVED
The Young Women’s Christian Association had rendered notable service during the war years, and it was certain that in the years ghead it would play an active and important role in the life of the community, said the Prime Minister (the Rt Hon. P. Fraser) in a message-wishing the-as-sociation in Christchurch success m their appeal for £20,000 for a building fund. The work of the association among young persons had. always been characterised by a high sense of social responsibility and deep understanding of youth, added Mr Fraser, and the campaign for funds had the full support of the Government. *
Praise for the association’s work was contained in a message from the Mayoress (Mrs F. Hardy Cookson), who said that most parents would realise the value of new buildings and extensions contemplated by the association.
Mr W. A. Bascand, president of the Canterbury Manufacturers’ Association. commended the appeal to manufacturers, saying that men and women were more valuable than machines, and that an investment of money in good citizenship was the soundest policy possible.
