AIR SERVICES EXTENSION
ASSURANCE BY CHAIRMAN OF CORPORATION The intention of the National Airways Corporation to extend the air services throughout New Zealand as rapidly as possible was expressed by the chairman (Sir Leonard Isitt), in a reply to a letter asking about the possibility of improving South Island air services. The letter was sent to him through the New Zealand Manufacturers’ Federation, and pointed out that though the Auckland-New Plymouth-Welling-ton service had recommenced, there was at present no indication that South Island services were being improved. “There are many difficulties to be overcome,” stated Sir Leonard Isitt’s reply, a copy of which was received by the council of the Canterbury Manufacturers’ Association last evening. “Tnere are the same difficulties which have limited and in some instance* caused cancellation of surface transport, but some progress has been made already, and it is hoped and expected to increase steadily air travel and air freight facilities throughout the Dominion.”
