MEDICAL AND DENTAL RESEARCH

GRANTS ANNOUNCED (P.A.) DUNEDIN. Sept. 17. “I am glad to see that added attention is being paid to dental research,” said the Chancellor (the Very Rev. D. C. Herron) at to-day’s meeting of the Otago University Council, when notification was received of a gift of £lOOO from Colonel T. A. Hunter to the Dental School for dental research. The Chancellor also drew attention to the fact that the Medical Research Council had made a grant of £2lOO for dental research. It was also stated that the Dental Association had made a grant of £lOOO for dental research. The registrar (Mr H. Chapman) reported that the Medical Research Council had made the following grants for research work:—nutrition. .£3637; hydatids. £1000: thyroid. £3117: virus, £2430; clinical medicine. £2000; neurophysiology, £2115; dental research. £2100: neuropsychiatric. £l4OO. Advice was also received that Mrs Christina Maclean Laird had offered to the council the income from a trust fund of £5OOO in memory of her father, Dr. Harold Chaffer, for medical research. It was decided to accept the gift. ________
