ROUTE OF FIRE ENGINES
Sir, —I notice that the fire engines are now being sent up Tuam street instead of Lichfield street. One day there will'be a terrible smash at Colombo street, too frightful to contemplate, because the traffic does not get enough warning. I think that the siren at Lichfield street should be moved to Tuam street, or if that is not possible, another one erected at Tuam and Colombo streets before it is too late. — Yours, etc., VIGILANT.
September 11, 1946. [“Fire appliances are not using Tuam street instead of Lichfield street as stated by ‘Vigilant’,” said Mr A. Morrison, Superintendent of the Christchurch Fire Brigade, to whom this letter was referred. “Fire appliances responding to a fire call, as near as possible, take a direct route from the fire station to the location of the call.”]
