POSTAL SERVICES
Sir, —As one who some months ago raised in your columns the need for the rehabilitation of the postal service, I think it is only fair to say that I have found the nightly clearance of suburban letter boxes to be a boon. I trust that the former afternoon clearance can also soon be restarted. As overseas air services are now getting well established, it is time that the inflation was taken out of the rates for postage. As a start in this process I would suggest that the rates to the United Kingdom should be reduced to 9d a half-ounce for ordinary letters, and to 4d each on the special air letter forms. Other rates could get a proportionate reduction. Unless the Post Office is going to revert to the 1939 rates soon, it is time that some relief came on the lines I am suggesting.— ‘Yours, etc., CITIZEN. September 14, 1946.
