ATOMIC ENERGY
USE AS CURE FOR DISEASE
(Rec. 7.30 p.m.) LONDON, Sept. 16. The “Sunday Chronicle” says that a special team of British scientists has been established at a London hospital to carry out research into atomic radiation as a cure for disease. It is believed that the research work will have an important bearing upon the treatment of cancer. . The belief that the application of atomic energy to cancer research may lead to the core of the disease was expressed by Professor N. F. Mott, of Bristol University, who has just returned from visiting Canadian research stations. The British research project is being backed by the Government, through the Medical Research Council, and the cost of the preliminary work may run into £1,000,000 over a period of years. Help in procuring equipment and materia] is being given by the Atomic Energy Committee, of which Sir John Anderson is chairman.
