SAVING OF FAT
POOR RESPONSE LAST WEEK “The fat collection for the week ending September 13 was the poorest since we started saving fat," says a statement from the Christchurch Famine Emergency Committee. A total of 12 ewt of rendered fat and only a little over 1 cwt of raw fat was received. While it is to be anticipated that city residents will be holding off to contribute to the drive in October, it seems that the country contribution of this vital addition to the food supplies for Britain could be much greater.” Supporting the “Food for Britain’ campaign, the Greenpark Red Cross branch is conducting a drive at present. Particular efforts are being made to obtain both laundry and toilet soap. Gifts of any kind may be left at the schoolhouse at Greenpark during this month. Residents of the district are also asked to leave fat saved at the same place.
