U.S. Enter Challenge Round for Davis Cup.—By easy victories in the last two singles matches the United States entered the challenge round for the Davis Cup without losing one match against any country. To-day Kramer beat Bergelin. 6-2, 6-2. 8-6; Parker beat Johansson. 9-7, 6-2, 6-I. New York, September 15. English Cricket Averages^—"The Times” says that W. R. Hammond, Washbrook, and Compton occupied the leading three places in the season’s averages with 84, 68. and 61 respectively. The New Zealander, hJL P. Donnelly, was fifth with 52. Other members of the M.C.C. team were:— Fishlock, eighth. 50; Edrich, tenth, 49; Hutton, twelfth. 48; Ikin thirtieth. 36; Hard staff, thirty-second 35 In bowling the best member of the M.C.C. team was Wright in seventh position with an average of 18.
