ACCIDENTS
CAR FALLS DOWN BANK ONE KILLED AND TWO INJURED (P.A.) WHANGAREI, August 21. Thrown from a car when it somersaulted down a 60ft bank, one man was killed and another was seriously injured near Riponui last night.
The man killed was Dennis Herdman, aged 59, a stock buyer for Thomas Borthwick and Company, of Whangarei, and the injured man was Charles Finlayson, aged 50, a farmer, of Purua. He received abrasions and a possible fracture of the skull, and his condition is serious. Graham Finlayson, a farmer, of Ngararatunua, suffered slight injuries. Herdman was driving along between Hukerenui and Riponui when the car plunged down the bank, the three occupants being thrown from the vehicle before it came to rest on its wheels at the bottom. Herdman was a son of Mr Justice Herdman and was a returned serviceman of both wars.
WOMAN INJURED IN COLLISION
Injuries which necessitated her admission to the Christchurch Public Hospital were suffered by Mrs Sybil Muschamp, a middle-aged woman, of 10 Warwick street, when she was involved in a collision with a truck at the corner of Kilmore and Manchester streets yesterday. Mrs Muschamp, who was the driver of a light car, was taken to hospital by the St. John Ambulance Brigade.
Her condition last night was reported to be satisfactory. '
