ADMISSION TO SECONDYEAR CLASSES NEW BASIS FOR SELECTION OF STUDENTS (P.A.) DUNEDIN, August 21. A new basis for the selection of students for admission to second-year classes at the Otago Medical School has been adopted by the Otago University Council, in conformity with a recommendation submitted by a special committee of the senate. For several years regulations governing admission to the school have been under discussion. complications being caused by the large number of applications and the question of priority for former servicemen. The council has agreed to accept re-
gistered medical students who have completed one year in second-year classes, but ,who have not passed the annual terms examination, provided they are approved for readmission by the medical faculty after full consideration of their whole academic record. University graduates who have passed the necessary qualifying examination will also be accepted, and places reserved for applicants qualifying for degrees on results of this year’s examinations but not announced when the first selection of candidates is made.
For other applicants, each of the four colleges will be assigned a quota based upon the total number of former servicemen and civilians qualifying from each college, preference being given to former servicemen up to the number of 35. It will be the responsibility of each college to place in order of preference candidates from that college. Applications for entry to the school must be made to the registrar. Otago University, not later than November 15.
