POSITION WITH UNO

CHRISTCHURCH MAN ATTENDS WORLD CONFERENCE

Mr Bruce Turner,, who has been second secretary at the New Zealand.

Legation at Washington since the legation was established there in December, 1941, has been lent for one year to the United Nations’ Organisation, with headquarters in New York. Mr Turner, who is a graduate of Canterbury University College, and son of Mrs H. G. Turner (Fendalton), has attended a number of world conferences since he left New Zealand. He was sent to the first UNCIQ conference at San Francisco as secretary to the New Zealand delegation Jtest September, and in a secretarial capacity also attended the first UNRRA

conference. In December he was sent

as a delegate from New Zealand to the preparatory conference for UNO in London. When UNO met he was placed in charge of the administrative and budget section. Soon after his return to the United States, Mr Turner was one of the three observers representing New Zealand at the International Bankers’ Conference in Georgia. The Dominion’s two other representatives were Sir Carl Berendsen, New Zealand Minister at Washington, and Mr E. C. Fussell, Deputy-Governor of the Reserve Bank of New Zealand. k
