LABOUR PARTY NOMINATIONS
CITY ELECTORATES HON. C. F. SKINNER UNLIKELY CANDIDATE Although the Minister of Rehabilitation (the Hon. C. F. Skinner) has been nominated by organisations for selection as the Labour candidate for Riccarton and Christchurch City it is considered in Labour circles that he is most unlikely to be available for selection. Mr Skinner’s present electorate, Motueka, has been abolished, the district being absorbed in the Buller and Nelson electorates. The list of nominations forwarded by the North Canterbury Labour Representation Committee to the national executive of the Labour Party includes a number of names of party members who definitely will not allow their nominations to proceed further. A. McLagan, M.L.C., Messrs R. M. Macfarlane, M.P., T. H. Langford, R. Jones, C. Morgan Williams,. M.P., and the Hon. C. F. Skinner, M.P. Selwyn.—Messrs C. Morgan Williams. M.P., D. Barnes. J. Messrs Grant, Rhodes, and Williams have already intimated their withdrawal from the selection ballots, and Mr C. Morgan Williams is unlikely to be a candidate for the Riccarton selection. WAIMARINO SEAT MR F. LANGSTONE NOT A CANDIDATE “ The Press ” Special Service TAUMARUNUI. May 6. The statement that he did not intend to be a candidate for the Waimarino seat at the next election was made by Mr F. Langstone. M.P., at a meeting of the Waimarino Labour Representation Committee at National Park.
Mr Langstone said that in view of the greatly enlarged size of the electorate. and as he was unable to drive a car. it would be difficult for him to cover the electorate.
Mr Langstone has held the Waimarino seat for Labour since 1931. It was reported that h’e had hopes of securing nomination for an Auckland city seat.
