Sir, —It was a treat to enjoy a decent smoke again to-day. It was a great surprise, on making the Usual rather timid inquiry from my tobacconist, to hear that English cigarettes were again available, and I wish to express my deep gratitude to a beneficent Government for providing them. I wondered whether it might be just an odd shipment that had arrived, but the tobacconist told me there would be a steady supply for six months. On reflection, I discovered rather a curious coincidence: the six months would be up at about the time of the next election.
