HEAVY TOOLS STOLEN
PREMISES ENTERED DURING WEEK-END Tools and equipment of a total value of about £l5O were stolen from an assembly store in Madras street, near Moorhouse avenue, belonging to Andrews and Beaven, Ltd., during the week-end. The robbery was apparently well planned, as the weight of the goods stolen totalled several hundredweight. and a car or truck -would have been necessary to remove the equipment. Four big sets of box spanners were taken, one of these weighing more than a hundredweight. Most of the tools taken would be useful for heavy work only, on vehicles such as bulldozers and tractors. Entrance was apparently gained by forcing a padlock on a small door facing the road.
ATTEMPT TO FORCE SAFE During the week-end, thieves entered the premises of James Knight’s Butchery, 172 High street, and tried to force the safe open. The lock of the back door of the shop was missing, and apparently it was through that door that the thieves gained admission. When the proprietor, Mr W. S. Hughes, arrived at work yesterday the floor of the office was in a state of confusion The safe was lying on its side and only one lock of several remained to be forced. A small chisel,
was stuck in one of the safe doors, apparently having been used to remove key guards and a metal strip protecting the locks. A hacksaw had also been used to clear obstacles in the way of the locks. The safe contained about £lO in cash, and a number of papers.
