AUTUMN MEETING TO-DAY The ’Ashburton County Racing Club's autumn fixture will be held at Ashburton to-day, and the club should have a successful meeting. Although the fields in the open events are not strong, the hack i races are well filled, and may provide the best of the day. The principal race, the Ashburton Handicap, has drawn a field of nine, and it is domihated by the top-weight.. Signal Officer, which on redent form should again be successful. The Ashburton course has a good, long straight, and that will suit Signal Officer. The course is in good order, and* unless the weather breaks the going should be fast. The weather was overcast in Gisbprne to-day, and the outlook is uncertain for the opening day to-morrow of the Poverty Bay Turf Club’s meeting. As the acceptors in the Maiden Stakes exceeded the safety number, this event has been divided into two separate races and they will be the fourth and fifth on the programme. It is expected that the track will be easy, and if further rain falls during the night it will be soft.
